General Info:
NUON is the name of a media processor chip designed by VM Labs that brought interactive features to DVD players in which it is integrated. It is kind of a 3DO for the DVD generation. The comparisons to 3DO are due to the fact that the technology inside the Nuon could be brought by any manufacturer. Samsung were the main company to use Nuon technology, although Toshiba also brought out a machine. In addition to high-end DVD playback features such as smooth, seamless scanning of DVD video, 20X zoom, action capture, angle view, smart matrix, and snap shot, NUON enhanced DVD players also come with the built in Video Light Machine (VLM) and the ability to play video games. Some of the games released for the platform include Tempest 3000, Iron Soldier 3, Freefall 3050 A.D. and Ballistic among others. The format is dead now as far as games are concerned. They are no longer sold by retail outlets and are currently quite difficult to get hold of.
