Time Crisis was released in 1995. Of course light gun games have been part of arcade history since the Seventies but I have included Time Crisis because of its influence on other arcade shooters. It later went on to become a series of hugely successful PS1 titles, which introduced the G-Con light gun peripheral to the Playstation.
Time Crisis is a Namco developed game, It is similar to Sega's Virtua Cop but Time Crisis uses a foot pedal to duck out of trouble whilst reloading. This gave Time Crisis an edge over Virtua Cop.
Graphically Time Crisis was superior to Virtua Cop, although both are excellent fun to play and worth a spin if you ever find one in an arcade.
It really was a close call whether to put Time Crisis or House of the Dead on the Arcade RetroHead pages but I hope you agree with my choice.
