This image/explanation of WiMax compared to Wi-Fi is taken from WiMAX.com and shows you just why WiMAX is the future of mobile gaming. We are not talking just about mobile phones...potentially we are talking 360 Live gaming, PS3 Network gaming and DS gaming on a vast scale.

As you can see the main advantage is that WiMAX can cover up to 6 miles using one 'base station' whilst Wi-Fi can only cover one small building using one 'station'.

What this is going to be used for is things like Ambulances being able to transmit live video and stat data to the hospital as they are returning with the patient to allow better treatment on arrival and to enable hospital experts see what is going on in real time. It will potentially replace Mobile phone masts. It will do all these things and so much more....but of course our interest is in gaming.

If you work within 6 miles of your home you could potentially hook up to your live box account and play on the move..assuming Microsoft produced a handheld device...and hey presto, Sony have an advantage here as does Nintendo. Real true gaming on the move. The limitation so far has been that there has not been the technology to allow people to go onto home accounts on the move as you would be out of range of the last Wi-Fi station within seconds. Now though you could potentially play online as long as you stayed within the 6 mile radius. There is though the possibility that several base stations could be linked up creating one mass National connection.

The potential is vast. So vast even my small mind cant even begin to think about the real possibilities. You could play a PSP game with anyone in London at any time wherever you are, no need to worry about internet connections in someones house for example.

This one for the road is vague, its short, but hopefully what it does is give you an early insight to what is coming. I make no apologies for being excited about the possibilities.
