Have recently bought a Jap PC Engine Core Grafx 2. What's good about it is that it has been converted to through through RGB Scart, therefore it plays on any TV that supports Scart and 60hz. Normal PCEs have the white, red and yellow AV leads, with the yellow lead carrying a NTSC only picture signal, therefore not playing on older non-NTSC TVs. The unit is tiny, only about the size of a packet of crisps. This week I have been playing the Adventure Island series which are actually updated conversions of the two Master System Wonder Boy games, Dragons Trap and Monster World and they are really great!

Senior VP of EA Games Europe, Patrick Soderlund, made this comment during E3. "I think that we've maxed out the 360 but we haven't maxed out the PS3." So when will they announce the next Xbox.

Wise words Stu. Agree about the 360 with Wifi. Agree about the PS3 also. Hoping that titles like Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain etc will start to show a real edge for the PS3. One thing though. The RROD has pushed the sales of 360's though. Multiple purchases of the console have inflated sales haven't they.

Hi guys just doing a straw poll, how do you guys like to play your retro games.
1 On the original system original pad Rf lead into the back of the HD tv
2 Xbox live PS network virtual console download
3 Compilation disc Ie Sega Mega drive collection or Atari collection
4 Emulator and roms on the pc
Personally i like 1 original system, it just feels right.

There is a lot to be said for compilation discs as it's handy to have everything in one place and the cost beats buying individual games on networks and console dashboards but for the genuine feel you can't beat playing it on original systems, it's the beauty of it all, for some reason using an original console and cartridge makes the game feel so much better. Hope everyone is well!

So this April Blaze are releasing a mega drive that has 15 built in games and you will also be able to play old cartridges in it too...thats got to be better than plug and play only devices...but I am still not going to list it here as a console / hand-held, its essentially just still a plug and play.
However, it could be very handy for the likes of me though as I would not have to mess around plugging the old machine in as my TV wont accept the old style connections. I have tried and so I have the mega drive sitting there doing nothing. At least this was I can play the old games. Price around £40
If it does play the old cartridges I shall be buying it. You getting any in Stuart?
What does everyone think...am I right to keep this out of the console list? I mean if it was only a plug and play...then I would not add it. The handheld sega that was released a while back is not listed because it only had built in games (and was not a new concept). But at least this one allows you to play old cartridges.

Stu, In answer to your question earlier here is what I found out................................................... In the UK as well as other parts of Europe, two versions of the NES were released, under the name of the "Mattel Version" and the "NES Version", the main differences between the two aside from the aesthetics of the Mattel version having a gloss finish and the NES version having a Matte finish was that the NES version was compatible with North American NES titles whereas the Mattel version could only have titles released in Europe playable on it.

I have to agree with you rob the Retrogamer podcast is awful, it sounds like two people chatting in a pub.
I had a 4 hour train journey last month and i though i would fill my ipod with Lost podcasts Retrogames podcast and to be honest i could only listen to about 5 mins of retrogamer.

Is it just me but has Edge magazine lost its edge and become really boring, two weeks ago when i waiting for my girlfriend at the airport i bought a copy of Edge to while away the hours while i waited for her.
it was just boring, i feel it has turned into a video game journal rather than an entertaining magazine, they appear to be so highbrow its unreal.
from no on if im looking for a good all round magazine i will buy games tm

i have just read 200th edition of edge and i was captivated from start to finish, what a magazine had a great article about the origins of the playstation and my favorite article was a selelction of industry big wigs saying what they think will happen in the next 100 issues.
a must read which goes against everything i have already said
