Neo Geo AES
May 26 2008, 2:48 PM EDT
I shall be adding some info about the AES soon. If anyone wants any advice about the AES, how it works, regionality, price of games, sourcing etc just let me know. An issue that always comes up is the price of the games, especially the high meggage carts. The maximum meg of a megadrive cart was 24 meg I believe. AES carts range from 34 to over 700 meg! The reason they are expensive is that all the ROM and RAM required has to be on the cart as the AES itself has no internal memory (games can be saved to a memory card - the first system to have one!), hence why the console is so surprisingly light. I have 26 carts so far, a mixture of UK and Jap, with prices ranging from £14.99 to £399! More info soon! 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Its a machine ive always wanted ever since i sore some older kids playing on it in a shop called jj games in Dover, you could pay £1 and play on it for ahalf a hour. I want to buy one off ebay or for omeone to walk into my shop and i will bite there arm off for it, so i can firstly give it a good try and secondly give it pride of place in my cabinet next to the PS3 and Nintendo ds.

chris if you ever want to trade it in please feel free (not Likely)

Kuriso! Your golf game on the AES you have, I have it on the handheld, Its one of the best games on the handheld. Although to be honest I have not played many games on the Neo Geo Handheld, apart from Metal Slug (awesome). Question which maybe you can give a definitive answer on...to save progress do you have to play all 18 holes to begin with? Or can you not save it at all? I cant work out how to save (if you can) after say for example the 3rd hole? Any ideas? Do you find this valuable?

I can't remember, so will try and find out for you. I think it just saves the player stats. Whatever, it's a great little game and nearly as good as its bigger brother!! The best hand-held golf game by far. Both Metal Slugs are great, and so is Samurai Shodown. On order I have got a Jap version of Densha De Go, the Taito train simulator - how sad is that? Actually, not as sad as it sounds....to me anyway. I take it the train simulator is not on the handheld? In the second hand shops all I see are the same hand held games over and over and they look dreadful. Can you recommend any good but hard to find ones on the handheld? As for the saving on the hand held..I have never been able to figure out what saves what and how....I have always thought that the Neo Geo handheld downfall was that it needed a seperate battery to be able to save and you had no continue codes like the Game Boy had. But yet the machine itself was far superior. At least thats my opinion.
Anyway, let me know what you can. Cheers

No, Densha IS for the NGP. As the console is region free, you can import a huge amount of really great games for it. I just tell my importer (www.videogameimports.com) what I want and he sources it direct from Japan. Actually I bought a slimline Jap NGP a couple of months ago which is ace. Have you got Neo Cup 98 Plus (footie)? If not, I have a spare copy you can have - no box, just cart and instructions (vgc). As for recommendations, these are all excellent: Sonic, Marvel v Capcom Match of the Millennium, Cardfighters Clash, Samurai Shodown, Fatal Fury, Faselei and Puzzle Bobble. Will be in touch about the saving Mullarkey Do you find this valuable?

Right, re Turfmasters. You can save progress at the beginning of each hole and before every shot by pressing "option" when prompted (before you get to the shot selection screen). On the next screen, choose yes to save (referred to as suspend). The NGPC will then turn off. Turn it back on and it will ask you if you want to resume (interestingly, on my NGPC, this screen refers to "Big Tournament Golf" which is the Jap title of the game). Choose yes and you will be taken back to the shot and hole where you were. So, you can only save the current game in progress, not multiple games, and the above seems to be the only way to do it. Hope that helps! Do you find this valuable?

Hey, thanks for all that, you really are up on your SNK. I shall try and look out for some of those games, I imagine some are quite rare compared to Turf masters as I have seen loads of those but hardly any of the others. I must try and get that train sim if its as god as you say, you dont normally find train sims anywhere other than PC gaming and to be honest I hate PC gaming. So having the option on a handheld sounds appealing. Those Save instructions are really useful and I had no idea..especially as its refered to as 'Suspend'. so honestly thanks for that. As for the copy of the footie title, I dont have a copy but if you are willing to give up your spare that would be awesome, I never look a gift horse in the mouth. I would want to pay you any postage costs at least as otherwise thats unfair on you. Do you have a paypal account? Or I will send you a postal order, no skin off my nose, just dont want to take the proverbial! Just let me know when and if you want to send it. I wont hold you to it but if you do, fantastic. Nice of you to even offer.

Any joy in getting others to check out Retrohead? be really good if we can get others on board. I know Discopot has been recommending us to his customers which is great. Anyone got any other ideas about promoting the site more?

Forgot to say the footie cart is the NGP monochrome version, not the colour one. Still an ace lttle game with great and very clear cartoony graphics. The instructions are in Jap, but the text on the cart is English. I have a spare copy of the colour version instructions that you can have as it is virtually the same game. Hey that sounds excellent, If you do drop it in on Saturday to Chips i can pick it up but it will be during the week in the day sometime as I am working this weekend but I am off all next week. As you will be dropping it off would you message Discopot to let him know, he may even read this anyway. You are a true gent, thanks so much, If I can ever return the favour..consider it done. Just send me a message when you have dropped it off. A copy of those instructions would be great. Cheers again! Do you find this valuable?
